Entry 008 | The Mysteries of Pittsburgh

Last Summer, I read a great book by Pulitzer Prize winner author, Michael Chabon, called The Mysteries of Pittsburgh. It's a coming of age tale and I'm always a fan of those bc I feel that I'm perpetually coming of age myself. I heard talks that it would be made into a movie starring Sienna Miller but it didn't seem like it was going to fan out. I found the trailer for it today and it looks pretty good. This is also the movie where while filming, Sienna Miller got in trouble for calling Pittsburgh, "Shittsburgh."

Entry 007 | Overstock + Frownie

I was talking with my friend (who shall remain nameless) over IChat today and she said, "I found some steals on overstock last night..." Without judgment, I chuckled to myself bc I thought she said, "some steaks." Then I found out that I just can't read. But you CAN get steaks at overstock. So nothing's all that funny.
Here's a picture I took of a serendipitous landing of the ingredients of Jason's (my worker) burrito. And when I took this picture at lunch, I knew that this would be as good as it gets on today's blog.

Entry 006 | What I do at Work

The other day my co-worker Mike aka stealth was taking pictures of me and ran giggling away. He came back with this.

It's a pretty accurate delineation of a typical work day for me: eating lots of german chocolate

Entry 005 | Robert Sean Leonard

Despite the fact that I'm probably too young to have fully enjoyed it, the 90's were the best time of my life. Specifically, movies and music were the best in, in my opinion. One of my favorite things about the 90's is Robert Sean Leonard. He's an actor who's trademark was playing youth trying to break from older ideals in such movies as Dead Poets Society and Swing Kids. Actors like him existed only in the 90's, who now have mostly disappeared, leaving us to bear the dronings of questionable starlets like Hannah Montana and the dude from High School Musical. Anyhoo, he had disappeared from the limelight for well over a decade before making his comeback as House's friend in the show House. He may be best known in this role to most people today, and that makes me kind of sad. I was also dissapointed to find out that he turned 40 this year. I know that's not old, but I have to admit, I was slightly grossed out. A tiny bit. Enjoy pics of young RSL in Swing Kids below:

Entry 004 | Little Children

One time (last night) I was having dinner with Al at a Korean/Japanese restaurant. Our dining experience was peppered with the company of a dynamic brother and sister duo, ages 5 and 8. Their names were Mahkaal and Nina and they were very curious about us and our boiling fish stew that had just come out. They kept asking where it came from and we kept saying, "the kitchen." Shouldn't that be kind of obvious even for a 5 year old? Anyhoo, while I typically find it annoying having to humor other ppl's children when my food arrives and all I can think about is dunking my face into the pot of hot yummy seafood stew, this exceptional pair made dinner more fun. I definitely wasn't the type of kid who wandered about and invited myself to sit at strangers' dinner tables as a kid, but I enjoy kids who are. Mahkall and Nina were great conversationalists, asking questions such as, "Where's that food from?", "Are you guys big kids?", "Can you drive a car?", and my favorite, "Does that [soup] smell like poo poo?" Saying poo poo and pee pee seems to make kids laugh hysterically. Needless to say, I was a riot - pee & poo are right up my alley.

The best line of the night was when Nina said that my face makes a tingling in her belly. I'm going to assume she meant that my face makes her laugh. And I'm going to assume that it was meant to be a compliment.

If Nina were in 2D, she'd look like this Yoshitomo Nara drawing:

Entry 004 | I lookuh Likuh Maaaan

My sister told me the other weekend that she saw me in a movie. My first reaction was to freak out, quickly recounting the homemade adult films I've never been in. Apparently, there is a movie called Long Life, Happiness, and Prosperity which stars Sandra Oh and a young Asian girl who looks and acts just like me. I checked it out and shockingly discovered I am in a movie! We are one in the same. This little girl is Asian (check) wears huge pink framed glasses (check), and spends most of her time trying to cast love spells on her mom and some man in the form of ancient chinese incantations while walking backwards and backstroking with her arms (check!). Oh and strangely enough, her name is also Mindy. Behold, my doppleganger:

Watch me on Hulu! I'm not half bad.

Entry 003 | Blogging Beats Burgers Barely

Last weekend while driving back from eating Five Guys (best $5 burger a man can eat - GQ) with Ado, I had an epiphany and that was this:

underground + indie = undie

I immediately thought to put this as my facebook status then thought against it as I'm not accustomed to talking about underwear with my ex creative directors or professional cohorts so why start now? Sometimes I think facebook is the technological equivalent of liquid courage and need to check myself before I wreck myself. I've also been known to claim that I came up with clever things that already exist (i.e. when I was in 2nd grade, I swore I came up with Sally Shells Seashells By the Seashore. But I swear I did and someone stole it from me and made it famous). I kept this genius discovery to myself until today when I shared it with my friend Laura who encouraged me to blog about it. And not in a,"So why don't you blog about it?" while pushing-your-glasses-up-with-index-finger kinda way that I do to other people. But more so in an encouraging way. I've found that people are so supportive of my new blogging kick, it makes me happy. Happ Happ Hilariously Happy He Ho! See I'm good at making up these things.

Entry 002 | Suburban Outfitters

I had a day off from work yesterday and I spent a part of it taking pictures of my bed, bookshelf and other items I'm planning on posting for sale on Craigslist. Why you ask? Bc I will be moving into my sister's place in the burbs come mid-May and I want to move as little belongings as possible. Me lazy. Anyhoo, one of the perks of not going into work is that I get to enjoy the natural light that pours into my apt from morning to midday. Which on this particular day made me sentimental. Henceforth I went nuts taking pictures of my place so I can have them to look at FOREVA. Now you can too. You've been a great studio to me for the past 2.5 years, I'll miss you.

My desk where I sit and compose jury duty excuse letters

Some of my favorite things: drawings from friends, art, inspirational quotes, postcards, french new wave film stills, stickers, Adam

Bathroom rug stained with Ancho's milk duds

Shoes I don't wear

Dust bunnies... get it?!

Tiny closet I've become accustomed to

Ikea shelf (which is yours for $15 if you can carry out of my place)

Entry 001 | Simon Pegg

In the last two weekends, I watched two rentals that starred the actor, Simon Pegg. He is one of my new favorite actors. Maybe best known for his role as Shaun in Shaun of the Dead ( I have yet to watch), Pegg plays essentially the same character in the movies, Run Fatboy Run and How to Lose Friends and Alienate People. His character comes off as a self centered and pesky nuisance of a man, not completely unlike a village idiot who keeps getting himself into a mess of things. He is however, a lovable idiot and throughout the course of the movie, you start to root for him in his quest to conquer whatever ridiculous obstacle or endeavor he's pursuing. I like watching him (or his character) bc he reminds me of myself and my inability to deal with life events. Though the events of Pegg's life ensue at a much higher entertainment level than mine, his perspective on life and ways of dealing with it, I feel, run somewhat parallel to mine.

In other news, I'm intrigued by the laptop sweater by The Post Family. I've been mulling over whether or not to get one for a couple months now. I totally don't need one but that's why it would make a perfect surprise gift for me. (hint hint: to all 4 of you who read this blog).
